Vanessa Ray Liptak (born November 2, 1980), known professionally as Vanessa Ray, is an American actress and singer. She is best known for portraying Teri Ciccone on the soap opera As the World Turns, Jenny on the legal drama series Suits,[1] CeCe Drake on Pretty Little Liars, and Tessa Marchetti on Damages.

Early life[edit]

Ray was born in Livermore, California and raised in Vancouver, Washington. Her parents James and Valerie Liptak were both involved in theater while she was growing up. Her father is a musician and often produced music for plays for local theaters in Vancouver.

Acting career[edit]

She earned her Actor's Equity card while performing the role of Rusty and singing "Let's Hear It For the Boy" in the musical Footloose. She originated the role of Nemo in Robert and Kristin Lopez's Finding Nemo: The Musical at Orlando's Disney World. Vanessa embodied the character of Olive Ostrovsky in the National Tour of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She joined the Broadway cast of Hair in its final year as Crissy, and sang the song "Frank Mills". She made her on-screen debut as Chris in the youth-oriented video short feature, The Sparky Chronicles: The Map (2003).

Since 2012, Ray has appeared as CeCe Drake, a "beyond-charismatic twenty-something blonde stylist at a boutique that has one heel in the present, one in the past.”,[2] in the TV series Pretty Little Liars. Ray was announced to start filming again for PLL, Ray spoke about returning saying "It's so fun to do, and what a crazy character I get to play. She's sort of a sociopath. I think she's so weird because she's, like, 22 but hangs out with high-schoolers. It's like, 'Hey, girl! Get a life!'”[3] In the fourth season, it is revealed CeCe is "Red Coat"—the former leader of "The A-Team".[4]

In 2013, she joined the Season 4 cast of the CBS police procedural drama Blue Bloods as Officer Edit "Eddie" Janko.[5]

Personal life[edit]

Ray now lives and works in Los Angeles and New York City. She has been married to Derek James since 2003.[6]
