Vanchinad Express is a express train in Kerala state, India which runs between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam.[1] This train connects state capital Trivandrum with cosmopolitian city called Kochi in Kerala

The train No:16303 starts from Ernakulam Junction at 05.00 hours and reaches Trivandrum Central at 09.40 hours. In the return direction it leaves Trivandrum Central at 17.40 hours and reaches Ernakulam Junction at 22.20 hours. The train runs via Kottayam route. It is a convenient daily day train service operating between Trivandrum and Kochi

The train has one Reserved AC Chair Car, one Reserved Second Sitting and about ten Unreserved Second Sitting Coaches.

History and Relevance[edit source | edit]

The train was introduced long back in late 70's as a Super Fast. It had stoppages only at Kottayam and Kollam. During this time, the train was also known as Executive Express and it was one of the fastest trains running in Kerala. But afterwards every MPs went on adding stops for this train in their respective regions. The word Vanchinad means "A land in the shape of a boat". The old state of Travancore had this shape and was the old name for it. Hence the train has been affixed the name.

The train currently has stoppages in Ernakulam Junction,Tripuinithura, Mulanthuruthy, Piravom Road, Kottayam, Changanacherry, Tiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikkara, Kayankulam Junction, Karunagappally, Sasthamkotta, Kollam Junction, Varkala, Kadakkavoor, Chirayinkeezh and Trivandrum Central. Trivandrum-Ernakulam train stops at Kazhakuttam as well.
