Town 'n' Country is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 78,442 at the 2010 census.[3]

Within Town 'n' Country are located Bay Crest Park, Countryway, Rocky Creek, Sweetwater Creek.

History[edit]

Settled in 1956 as a dairy farm. It remained rural until suburbization occurred during the 1960s and the 1970s.

Geography[edit]

Town 'n' Country is located at 28°0′36″N 82°34′22″W / 28.01000°N 82.57278°W / 28.01000; -82.57278 (28.010046, -82.572815),[4] or 5 miles NW of Tampa. The extreme northwest portion of Tampa International Airport is located within the boundaries.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 24.4 square miles (63 km2), of which, 23.7 square miles (61 km2) of it is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2) of it (3.03%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 72,523 people, 28,870 households, and 18,707 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,063.5 people per square mile (1,183.0/km²). There were 30,720 housing units at an average density of 1,297.7/sq mi (501.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 50.48% White, 7.89% African American, 0.36% Native American, 3.28% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 6.96% from other races, and 2.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 28.97% of the population.

There were 28,870 households out of which 30.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% were married couples living together, 12.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 34.7% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $42,415, and the median income for a family was $49,054. Males had a median income of $32,489 versus $26,946 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $21,346. About 6.2% of families and 8.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.3% of those under age 18 and 7.7% of those age 65 or over.
