"This Is How We Do It" is the debut single by R&B singer Montell Jordan. It was released on 6 February 1995 as the lead single from his debut album of the same name. The song is representative of the new jack swing style popular at the time (though, by 1995, the new jack swing genre had been mostly replaced by hip hop soul[citation needed]), featuring Jordan singing over an enhanced sample of Slick Rick's "Children's Story." It was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks from 15 April to 27 May 1995, and was number one for seven weeks on the R&B singles chart.[1] A cover of the song also appears as a bonus track on the AlunaGeorge album Body Music.
