Tarun Kumar Savvana, better known as Tarun (Telugu: తరుణ్), is an Indian film actor who primarily works in Telugu cinema. He has also worked in Tamil and Malayalam cinema. He received the National Film Award for Best Child Artist in 1991, for his work in Mani Ratnam's Anjali.[1]

He was featured as a lead actor in Nuvve Kavali in 2000.[2] He then starred in romantic films including Priyamaina Neeku, Nuvvu leka nenu lenu, Nuvve Nuvve, Enakku 20 Unakku 18, Punnagai Desam, and Sasirekha Parinayam.

Personal life[edit]

Tarun is the elder son of Oriya actor Chakrapani Savvana and Telugu actress Roja Ramani. He is an accomplished cricketer and participates in Celebrity Cricket League.[3]

Tarun's paternal side are composed of the following people. 2 auntys-one of them stays in Kenya-Aruna Kumari, and two uncles, one of them who was in Kenya but moved back to Hydrebad-Savvana Srinivas Rao, twice a divorcee.

Career[edit]

Tarun started his acting career at the age of eight, under Usha Kiran Movies production, before going on to win the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his performance in Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Anjali in 1990, alongside his co-stars Shamili and Shruti. He also won acclaim for his work in the Malayalam children's film, Abhayam (1991), which won the National Film Award for Best Children's Film and Tarun won the Best Child artist Award at the Japanese film festival. In total, he went on to win three Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Award for Best Child Actor recognitions for his work in Telugu films.[4] After a successful career as a child artist, Tarun took a seven year break from appearing in films to complete his education, though featured in advertisements shot by Rajiv Menon.

He made a comeback as a leading actor in K. Vijaya Bhaskar's Nuvve Kavali (2000), a romantic drama film where he portrayed a youngster who falls in love with his best friend, played by Richa Pallod. The was favourably received, and won three Filmfare Awards and received the Best Telugu film prize at the National Film Awards in 2001.[5]
