"Shot in the Dark" is the eleventh episode of the fourth season of the supernatural American/Canadian television series Haven and a cross-over episode with the social-media storyline involving the Darkside Seekers. It aired on SyFy on November 22, 2013. It was written by Nick Parker and directed by Mairzee Almas.

Plot[edit]

The Darkside Seekers, Seth and Anderson, a two-man team of independent paranormal hunters, have come to Haven to investigate a murder in which the victim was found missing his heart. Their instruments have led them to a house from which they hear noises and a scream. Inside they find a trail of blood and are driven out by the growl of something. As Gloria tells Dwight that the victim is missing her heart, he notices the two listening to the conversation using surveillance equipment and tries unsuccessfully to scare them off. Seth reports to the camera that the murders seem to point to a Rougarou.

Audrey is in hospital suffering from her share of William's bullet would. He is in the next ward room. Nathan and Duke go to interview Jemma, who was talking to the last victim at the time of the attack. She is attacked right in front of Duke, Nathan and the Darkside Seekers but none of them can save her.

After looking for a commonality between the two victims, the team discovers that they share a birthday—the same birthday as Duke's new girlfriend, Jennifer. Fearing for Jennifer's safety, Duke rushes to find her at the offices of the Haven Herald but, when he, Nathan and Dwight arrive, they find Jennifer not there and the whole office torn apart. Nathan suggests they seek the help of the Darkside Seekers, who are upset that their video of the Rougarou seems corrupted as it appears pixelated. Duke recognizes the pixelation as the orbs that William controls. Nathan and Duke go to the hospital to interrogate William. When they arrive they find Audrey has completely recovered and William has disappeared.

Jennifer phones Duke to say that the Rougarou did indeed show up but she was able to escape and hide out in a warehouse. When the team finally reaches her, Seth has a device that detects the Rougarou, but it also discovers that the book Jennifer is carrying is special. Audrey recognizes it as the book that Agent Howard took from her apartment before Audrey first came to Haven. When she takes it from Jennifer the device stops beeping and starts again when Jennifer takes it back. The Rougarou finally attacks and Jennifer drops the book in the confusion. The beast comes upon her just as she picks it up and as it reaches her it explodes into a myriad of orbs.

The Darkside Seekers promise not to show the footage they have collected and go their way in search of new mysteries. Jennifer notices the Guard symbol on the front cover of the book, though no-one else can. When she opens it she sees a riddle on the first page.

 The Child of Ruin
 must find the
 Heart of Haven
 and summon The Door

Jennifer thinks she is the Child of Ruin and the door opens to send William to wherever he came from.
