Samantha "Sammi" Rae Giancola (born March 14, 1987) is an American television personality, model and actress. She first came to prominence as one of the eight main cast members in the MTV reality series Jersey Shore.

Early life[edit]

Giancola was born in Hazlet, New Jersey to parents Al and Angela Giancola, who divorced in 2005. She is of Italian and Greek descent.[1][2] Giancola was a four-year varsity soccer letter winner at Raritan High School.[3] She majored in Sociology in William Paterson University where she was a midfielder on the university's women soccer team.[3] She has two sisters, Nikki and Rachel Giancola. Back when Samantha was still studying at William Paterson University, she was quite the soccer player; she helped her team win the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Metro Tournament. Prior to William Paterson University, she was a four-year varsity letter winner at Raritan H.S. and was named the team’s Most Improved Player. [4] That same year was when she joined the cast of MTV’s reality program, “Jersey Shore.”

Career[edit]

Samantha Giancola decided to apply for the reality TV show Jersey Shore because she is from Jersey, and it was second nature for her. Giancola became a part of MTV's hit reality show Jersey Shore in August 2009. The show premiered on December 4, 2009 with other seasons taking place in New Jersey, Miami, and Italy. Giancola was in a severely tumultuous relationship with "Ronnie," another character on the show. The show was a hit and made ratings history for MTV. All eight cast mates are getting paid $100,000 per episode as of season 4.[5] She has since appeared with her cast mates on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Wendy Williams Show and Live with Regis and Kelly. Giancola has booked modeling campaigns for magazines such as Us Weekly, Life & Style, People, and Harper's Bazaar. In 2011, she launched her first perfume titled 'Dangerous' along with Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi. Later in 2012, Giancola and her Jersey Shore co-stars appeared in the 2012 film of The Three Stooges.[6][7] Like the rest of the "Jersey Shore" cast, Giancola was not afraid to be herself even when cameras followed her every move. Unfortunately, the cast portrayed Italian-Americans negatively, especially with their frequent use of the terms "Guido" and "Guidette." This caused some controversial issues, where one of the largest Italian-American organizations, UNICO National, called for a boycott of the show, while some of MTV's advertisers pulled their commercials out after the first episode aired.[8]

Sammi Sweetheart Clothing Line[edit]

MTV reality star and fashionista Samantha Giancola, debut her new line of fitness wear at the 2012 New York fashion week showcase. [9] Samantha partnered with SXE fitness to create a stand out collection of brightly coloured workout attire. The Jersey Shore stars active wear line includes sports bras, yoga pants, and jackets; each piece featuring her signature sweetheart logo.[10] Sammi ‘Sweetheart’ has gone a long way to achieve her desire to work in the fashion industry. She has had the privilege to introduce her activewear fashion line with the support of her boyfriend Ronnie along the way.

Relationship with Co-star Ronnie[edit]

Since the beginning of Jersey Shore in 2009, Samantha and Ronnie have been together, but it has definitely been a bumpy ride. They played out their tumultuous relationship for all to see on Jersey Shore, breaking up and getting back together time and again. Although, Sammi 'Sweetheart' Giancola and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro appear to have weathered their stormy fights.[11] After a long battle through each season, Ronnie and Sam seemed to always end up together. Through six seasons of breakups and makeups on Jersey Shore, they have made great progress in their relationship. "Recently the couple has spent their time away from MTV’s cameras settling into a life of blissful domesticity, and their close friends have even predicted an engagement and babies.” [12]

The reality star opens up about her relationship with Ron in an interview. She seems to express that them living together is going really well. According to Samantha Giancola, “The best part of living together is being able to relax and enjoy it without the stress of having cameras around, and because Ron and I have been living together since the start of Jersey Shore, we’re really comfortable with each other in our apartment”[13] The reality star couple look the picture of love when she describes her relationship with Ronnie.
