ReverbNation.com is a SaaS company, launched in 2006, that focuses on the independent music industry. It aims to provide a central site for musicians, venues, labels, and industry professionals to collaborate and communicate. The company offers web promotion, fan-relationship management, digital distribution, sentiment tracking, web-site hosting, and concert booking and promotion.
The company's CEO and co-founder is Mike Doernberg, whose marketing software firm, SmartPath, was acquired by DoubleClick in 2004.
As of August 2013, 3.0 million musicians have created ReverbNation accounts, and the website receives over 30 million unique visitors per month.
Promote It, launched in 2011, enables members to advertise their Facebook Page or one of their songs on Facebook. More than 100,000 ad campaigns had been generated by the service as of June 2012. In September of 2012, ReverbNation expanded its Promote It product, allowing musicians to run ad campaigns on premium sites across the web.
Music For Good, launched in 2013, allows musicians to donate a portion of the proceeds from each of their songs sold on ReverbNation to one of 13 charities, including Fender Music Foundation, Oxfam America, World Vision, Heifer International, Zac Brown's Camp Southern Ground and CARE. When a song is purchased for $1.29, 56 cents goes to the artist, 56 cents is sent to a charity the artist selects, 12 cents goes to PayPal to process the payment, and five cents goes to ReverbNation.
ReverbNation provides a widget that allows its members to place content on web pages. This TuneWidget is a feature that links back to additional content, such as music recommended by the band who created the widget. In 2007, Webs (formerly Freewebs) added a widget service that included TuneWidget as an option for its users.
A feature called Band Equity measures popularity based on four metrics of its service: reach, influence, access, and recency with the top 100 of each genre being recognized.
ReverbNation enables musicians to create their own mobile app for Apple and Android devices. These customizable apps can include the musician's music, bio, photos, show dates, blog and social links.
In 2012, ReverbNation partnered with Hard Rock International to create Hard Rock Rising, a worldwide online Battle of Bands taking place on Facebook. Over 950,000 new fans were added to participating Hard Rock Cafes’ Facebook Pages as a result of the social media campaign. The winner of Hard Rock Rising 2012 was Cleveland-based band, Hey Monea!.
In Dec 2009, ReverbNation partnered with Microsoft to launch the "Playlist 7" sponsorship program, where 7 top emerging artists were able to showcase their work by having one of their songs featured.
In May 2008, Judas Priest pre-released a track from its upcoming album on ReverbNation. Its label, Epic Records, described the use of the TuneWidget as "a must-have tool for any artist's viral campaign."
