R5 are an American family band. Formed in 2009, they have gained popularity with Riker's recurring role on Glee and Ross's starring role on Disney. The band consists of four siblings and their best friend from Littleton, Colorado: Riker Lynch, Ross Lynch, Rocky Lynch, Rydel Lynch, and family friend Ellington Ratliff.

So far the band has released an EP: "Ready Set Rock", but they are working on their studio album debut since they announced through their website that they have signed a record deal with Hollywood Records.[1]

The band went on a mini Tour Club sponsored by Radio Disney, entitled R5 West Coast Tour. On June 1, 2012, it was announced that the band will be playing at the Big Ticket Summer Concert singing Say You'll Stay in Canada put on by Family Channel along with Bridgit Mendler (Ready Or Not), Mimoza Duot (LOVE), Allstar Weekend (Not Your Birthday Day, Blame It On September, Come Down with Love and Dance Forever), Veronica (Incompatible) and Tyler Medeiros (Say I Love You and Girlfriend), with hosts Ed Witzke, Demetrius Joyette, Ana Golja and more.

History

2008-2011: Formation and first performances

R5 is a group of siblings born and raised in Littleton, Colorado.[2] After moving to Los Angeles, Rocky Lynch, began showing interest in playing the guitar; he taught himself how to play and got into bands like Fall Out Boy and Green Day. Rocky later taught their younger brother Ross to play guitar and taught Riker to play the bass. Rydel, who had previously learned how to play the piano, took up the instrument again, and in October 2009 the family met Ellington Ratliff at a dance studio. Learning that Ratliff could play drums they added the final member and using Ratliff's last name they completed R5.

R5 released an EP titled "Ready Set Rock" on March 9, 2010 consisting of songs written primarily by Riker and his brother Rocky along with their sister Rydel, band coach E-Vega, and vocal coach / songwriter, Mauli B. The EP was also produced by E-Vega.[2]

R5 plays all throughout Southern California at such venues as the Orange County Fair, the San Diego Fair, San Diego Indie Fest, The Knitting Factory, and Six Flags Magic Mountain.

2012-present: Hollywood Records and debut studio album

In April 2012 R5 announced via the band's website that they had signed a record deal with Hollywood Records and that they are planning for their first Club Tour in May.

R5 currently are recording their debut album for an early 2013 release as well as a full length R5 album.[3]
