PAW Patrol is a Canadian/American children's television show that first aired on August 12, 2013, on Nickelodeon in the United States and in Canada on TVOKids on September 2, 2013. Although it is considered a Nick Jr. show, the show is broadcast on Nickelodeon and TVOKids. The show is produced by Spin Master Entertainment in association with TVOKids and Nickelodeon. On November 14, 2013, Nickelodeon announced that PAW Patrol had been renewed for a second season.[1][2]

Plot[edit]

PAW Patrol is a computer-generated, action-adventure preschool series starring a pack of six heroic puppies: Chase, Marshall, Rocky, Zuma, Rubble, and Skye, who are led by a tech-savvy 10-year-old boy named Ryder. With a unique blend of problem-solving skills, cool vehicles and lots of cute doggy humor, the PAW Patrol works together on high-stakes rescue missions to protect the Adventure Bay community.

From Marshall the firedog to Chase the police pup to Skye, who flies high in her copter, each pup brings unique personality and skill to the team, modeling the importance of teamwork and good citizenship. They all have special Pup Packs on their backs to help them handle anything – from rescuing kittens to saving a train from a rock slide. And no matter how big the adventure, the PAW Patrol always has time for a game, a laugh, and an ear scratch from Ryder.

MarshallDalmatianFirepupFrom the firehouse to his fire truck, Marshall is a Dalmatian who is all action, easily excited, and the clumsy one of the group. Most birds are shown to quite fond of him, notable examples being Fuzzy, Chickaletta, and Yumi's chickens. There is running gag involving Marshall clumsy crushing into the other Pups while entering the Lookout's elevator. Other running gags involving Marshall's clumsiness include him comically falling down and hitting each of the rungs on his fire ladder with rear end, accidentally spraying the other pups or animals (usually the water hating Rocky & Cali) with his water cannon, and spinning out of control whenever he tries to do a tail dance spin. Whenever Marshall has one of his wipeouts, the pups will always hear Marshall say, "I'm okay!". He has pteromerhanophobia or fear of flying, though he is not acrophobic (afraid of heights) as he has no problem climbing up to the top of his fire ladder and using it to climb to the top of tall buildings like Yumi's Silo, the roof of the train station, and city hall's bell tower. Despite his fear of flying, he has faced this fear twice in the series. In "Pup Pup Goose", in order to convince his gosling friend Fuzzy to migrate with his flock, Marshall allows himself carried by Skye helicopter via a cable and harness. He does this again in "Pups Save a Toof", to help convince Alex to overcome his fear of the dentist. Due to his wipeouts, he is often the last pup to enter the elevator and in a one episode was determinded to be first in the elevator (possibly in the hope of avoiding a wipeout) but fails after he is accidentally knocked out of the elevator. However in at least one episode, one of these wipeouts ends up causing him being first in the elevator.

RubbleEnglish BulldogConstructionRubble is a gruff but a lovable English bulldog that knows all about skateboards and snowboards. He is also a skilled at digging. He is a big fan of canine super hero Apollo the Super Pup and tries to emulate him in "Pups Save a Super Pup". He loves to get dirty then jump into a bath. There's no job Rubble's construction digger can't scoop up! In "Pups Get a Rubble", the story of how Rubble joined the PAW Patrol is told to Mayor Goodway by Ryder. He was original homeless pup who Ryder, Marshall, and Chase found stuck in a tree near the lookout. He later ends up follow the PAW Patrol on a mission to save Jake, who was trapped in the snow. Using his snowboarding and digging skills Rubble helped the PAW Patrol free Jake who asked if Rubble was the Patrol's newest Pup giving Ryder the idea of making Rubble the teams Construction Pup. When he first joined the PAW Patrol he is shown to be younger than the other Pups and possibly underweight due to living on his own. In "Pup Pup Boogie", it is revealed Ryder taught Rubble how to drive his Construction rig. In "Pups Save A Toof", it is revealed Rubble has Arachnophobia, fear of spiders. In "Pups and the Snow Monster", Rubble is shown to believe rumors about the "Adventure Bay Snow Monster" and though he tries to hide it, he shows fear while he is investigating sighting of the cryptid on Jake's Mountain with Ryder and Chase. He is relieved when the monster is revealed to be Bettina, Garbie, and Chickaletta in a snow covered tree. In "Pups and the Beanstalk", he takes a nap after helping Yumi plant her bean crop and has a dream about him, Ryder, and the rest of the PAW Patrol dealing with a giant Alex Porter. In "Pups Save the Turbots", Rubble becomes jealous of Cap'n Turbot's French cousin Francois Turbot when Skye started adoring him and tries to emulate the Frenchman in an attempt to impress Skye but fails to impress her. However at the end of the episode Rubble makes peace with Francois offering to let him use his skateboard, only to discover he is a far better skateboarder than Francois.

ChaseGerman ShepherdPolice PupUsing his police truck and megaphone, this German Shepherd is an athletic natural leader who likes to take charge and he is the assumed leader and captain of the PAW Patrol. As the team's police pup, Chase uses sense of smell for tracking and/or investigating. Chase may be on the case, but he has to watch out for cats and feathers because he's allergic, causing sneezing fits, though despite this it does not hinder his tracking skills. Outside of tracking and investigating, Chase has the important role of controlling and directing road traffic during an emergency, using his road cones and megaphone to keep pedestrians, drivers, and even baby sea turtles safe while on the road. Also when required, Chase can perform a routine traffic stop. In "Pups Save The Sea Turtles" he is hinted to have a crush on Skye, and in "Pups Save the Camping Trip", Skye notices that he was worried about her after she lowered to save Chickaletta, and calls him very sweet. In "Pup Pup Boogie", when Rubble sprains his paw while trying to fix broken train tracks, Ryder has Chase use Rubble's rig to finish the job, teaching Chase how to drive it using a trick Skye taught Chase to help him learn how to play Pup Pup Boogie dancing video game. In "Pups Save a Hoot", it is reveal Chase understands owl speak. In "Pups Save A Toof", Chase's canine tooth becomes loose. When Ryder suggests the Chase see the dentist but it is revealed Chase has dentophobia, fear of dentist. When Alex refuses to go to his dentist appointment because of his own fear, Chase faces his fear in order help Alex and both manage to overcome their fear. In "Pups Turn on the Lights", his friends throw him a surprise birthday party at Katie's clinic. In "Pups Great Race", it is shown Chase can be somewhat over obsessive about safety as he was more concerned about having enough traffic cones to mark the race course, repeating the phase "I need more cones!" several times. However his concerns on safety are somewhat well-founded as they end up going off course during the race when his cones marking off the course on Jake's Moutain are removed by Jake for some skiers unaware of their importance. Chase also alerted the pups of the bubble bath road hazard in front of Katie's Clinic, again showing his focus is more on safety than winning. In "Pups Save Ryder", he acts as the PAW Patrol's leader during Ryder's absence and after finding Ryder's Pup Pad in a bag of groceries Mr. Porter's van, Chase deduced how it had fallen into the van. In "Pups and the Lighthouse Boogie", Chase makes it to the finals of the Pups' Pup Pup Boogie Dance-Off along with Zuma, indicating Chase has become really good at playing the game since "Pup Pup Boogie". Interestingly both he and Zuma have both driven Rubble's construction rig on different occasions.

RockyMixed BreedRecyclerRocky is a mix-breed pup that always has handy resources. He's an enthusiastic recycling dog with a thousand ideas and tools inside of his pup pack. However, he has aquaphobia (fear of water) and dislikes baths though he manages to put his fear and dislike of water aside in order to clean up in order to enter the Puptacular dog show for Katie in "Puptacular" and manages to win the award for best mix-breed. Rocky faces his fear again in "Pups Save A Toof", allowing himself to be sprayed by Marshall's water cannon. His best friend is Zuma, which is ironic given Zuma's love of water. There is a running gag of Rocky accidentally getting wet or sprayed by Marshall's water cannon. He acts as the team's engineer and repair pup using recycled materials to repair damaged objects or solve various problems. As a result, he often is teamed up with Rubble who is the teams construction pup, with Rubble doing most of heavy lifting and construction work while Rocky deals with finer details such as materials and detailed repair work. In "Pups Save the Easter Egg Hut", Rocky almost fell to his death while stepping out of an eagle's nest. However, Chase saved him by using his net. In "Pups Save Ryder", he and Chase are the only Pups to think of tracking Ryder Pup-Pad via its GPS signal and remains at the lookout to monitor the situation. After Chase discovers the Pup-Pad had fallen into Mr. Porters van, Rocky comes up with the idea to use the lookout's equipment to backtrack the signal to when Ryder made the call for help, demanstrating his technical knowledge and expertise with the lookout's monitoring equipment.

ZumaChocolate Labrador RetrieverWater-Rescue PupZuma is all about the water! This Chocolate Labrador loves to laugh and surf. He lives in his boathouse and dives into action in his hovercraft. As he is the team's water rescue and diving specialist, he's usually only involved with water rescues, diving, or certain missions involving water. In "Pups Save a Super Pup", he briefly drives Rubble's digger when Rubble becomes trapped in a train tunnel, though very badly. Apparently, he's not afraid of anything, since in "Pups Save a Toof", while Ryder picks each pup to tell what they're afraid of, he skips Zuma. He and Rocky are best friends. In "Pups and the Lighthouse Boogie", he and Chase compete in the finals of the pups' Pup Pup Boogie dance off, demonstrating he is a skilled dancer and player of Pup Pup Boogie dance game.[3]

  • "Ready! Set! Get wet!"

SkyeCockapooAviationSkye is a fearless and smart Cockapoo who loves to fly in her helicopter or with the wings in her pup pack. She tries everything with a back-flip, grace, and a smile. Due to her love flying she is a skilled pilot, she is also a skilled dancer and teaches Chase a trick to help him learn how to play the Pup Pup Boogie dancing video game, which later help Ryder teach Chase how to drive Rubble's rig when Rubble out of action due to an injury. She loves cute bunnies and is happy when one that stowed away on her helicopter and is allowed to live with them in "Pups Save the Bunnies". Chase is known to have a crush on her, but she doesn't realize it. In "Pups Save the Sea Turtles", when Chase gets worried and flustered in front of her. In "Pups Save A Toof", it is revealed Skye is afraid of eagles, though in other episodes she has managed to overcome it. In "Pups Great Race", when Rubble suggests Skye could easily win in her helicopter by taking advantage of her ability to fly up and taking a shortcut, however Skye quickly dissmisses the idea stating she has to follow the race course like all the Pups, showing that she believes in playing fair. Later during the accidental detour on Jake's Mountain, her flying actually proves to be a disadvantage as she had avoid trees on the mountain which slowed her down. In "Pups Save the Turbots", she adores Cap'n Turbot's cousin Francois Turbot, due to his athletic abilities in kite-surfing and French accent, developing a slight crush on him, which made Rubble jealous. She is unimpressed by Rubble's attempts to emulate the Frenchman. In "Pups Save the Camping Trip", after she is successfully lowered to save Chickaletta, Chase started cheering that she was safe. Skye notices and sees that he was worried about her, so she calls him very sweet.
