Neethu (born 2 September 1986) is an Indian actress, who predominantly appears in Kannada-language films. She started her career by acting in the Kannada TV serial, Punya, directed by Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar and later became a lead actress in various Kannada films.

Career[edit]

Known to be a very sensitive and a natural actor Neethu has acted in over 20 movies. Her portrayal of Deyi Baidhyethi in the Tulu film Koti Chennaya won her the prestigious State Award for the Best Supporting Actress. She gained wide recognition and won accolades for her role as that of a tomboy in the Gaalipata, directed by Yogaraj Bhat. Neethu was paired opposite Diganth in the movie. She was also praised by critics for sensitively portraying the role of an orphan girl named Sihi in the movie 'Yogaraj...But', directed by Dayal Padmanabhan. After the moderate success of 'Yogaraj...But', the talented pair of Naveen and Neethu have starred in another Kannada film 'Jeevana Joke..Alli'. Neethu played the role of Mohanlal's wife Satyavathi, in the Malayalam movie Photographer She had changed the spelling of her name from 'Neethu' to 'Neettoo' in accordance with numerology, but later reverted to the original spelling.[1]

Personal life[edit]

Born to Mr. Manjunatha Shetty and Mother Mrs. Mohini Manjunath, Neethu is the older of two siblings. Neethu also has a younger sister named Preethi. Hailing from Mangalore, Neethu studied in St. Gerosa's Girls School and attended St. Agnes Girls College, before shifting to Bengaluru for further studies at Jyoti Nivas College.She secured 1st rank in Psychology. Neethu has said that she loves to travel and does so frequently. She recently went backpacking with a friend to Iran. She is fluent in various Indian languages including Kannada, Tamil and Hindi, as well as regional languages including Tulu and Konkani. Despite various rumours regarding her personal life and relationships, she has always maintained that she is single.

Known also to be a great dancer with excellent language skills, Neethu regularly hosts and performs in various events across Karnataka.
