Louis "The Facelifter" Monaco, (born April 28, 1968 in Denver, Colorado) is a professional boxer in the Heavyweight division and the former CAM (Canadian American Mexican) Heavyweight Champion. Nicknamed "The Facelifter," Monaco is a clubfighter who fought several significant fighters of his era.[1]

Early life[edit]

Monaco turned pro in 1995 at the age of twenty-seven, after a professional bodybuilding career.

Pro career[edit]

In Monaco’s second bout, his opponent Eric "Butterbean" Esch quickly connected with a devastating right hand that knocked Monaco out. The referee immediately called a halt to the bout as Monaco lay motionless at the edge of the ring.[2] He would go on to fight Trevor Berbick, Kirk Johnson, Vitali Klitschko, Lamon Brewster, Fres Oquendo, Lance Whitaker, and Maurice Harris.[3] But he also had some notable successes, particularly earlier in his career, when he drew with former kickboxer Rick Roufus, knocked out Peter McNeeley and beat Michael Dokes. His biggest win came by knockout over a then-undefeated Kevin McBride.[4]

Buster Douglas comeback[edit]

Monaco nearly brought Buster Douglas's comeback to a halt during their match in a 1997. In a bizarre ending, Monaco landed an overhand right just after the bell to end round one that knocked Douglas to the canvas. Douglas was unable to continue after a five-minute rest period, thus he was awarded the win by disqualification in a fight that was aired on USA-TV's "Tuesday Night Fights" program.[5]

Professional boxing record[edit]
