New Girl is an American television sitcom that premiered on Fox on September 20, 2011. Zooey Deschanel stars as Jessica Day, a well-liked, bubbly, and adorable woman in her late 20s who is trying to get over her surprise breakup with her boyfriend. With the help of her best friend Cece (Hannah Simone), she finds a new place to stay when she moves in with three single guys: Nick (Jake Johnson), an underachieving bartender; Schmidt (Max Greenfield), a professional and modern-day Casanova; and Coach (Damon Wayans, Jr.), Coach leaves the series in the next episode and is replaced by Winston (Lamorne Morris)a former professional athlete who achieved modest success abroad and is adjusting to life back in the United States.

Nick freaks out about moving in with Caroline, and he, the roommates and Cece end up in the desert with no car keys to drive home, as Nick has thrown them into the sand. Schmidt becomes jealous of Cece, and they argue over the men she sees at her job. Nick and Jess run into a coyote while searching for the keys to the moving van. Nick ultimately decides not to move in with Caroline, and returns to the loft. 

Season 2 (2012–13)[edit]

On April 9, 2012, Fox renewed New Girl for a second season, which premiered on September 25, 2012.[25][26] Parker Posey guest starred as a "shot girl" at a party thrown by Schmidt in the season premiere episode "Re-Launch"; Leslie Mann was originally cast in the role, but pulled out due to a scheduling conflict.[27] Raymond J. Barry guest starred as "Old Nick" — an older drunk man who frequents Nick’s bar, claiming to be Nick — from the future.[28] Niecy Nash, David Walton and Eric Winter all signed on as guest stars for the second season. However, Walton was the only actor out of three that appeared in the series, he appeared in a recurring role as Jess' love interest, Sam, first appearing in the episode "Katie".[29] Rachael Harris reprised her role as Jess' boss, Tanya Lamontagne in episode "Re-Launch".[29] Maria Thayer guest starred as Amelia in the Halloween episode, a woman from Nick's college days.[30] Carla Gugino guest starred in a three-episode stint as Schmidt's new boss, Emma.[31] Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner guest starred as Jess' parents in the Thanksgiving episode.[32] Rob Riggle also guest starred as Schmidt's cousin in the Thanksgiving episode.[33] Olivia Munn guest starred in a three-episode arc as Angie, a love interest for Nick.[34] Brenda Song appearred in a recurring role as Daisy, a love interest for Winston. Brooklyn Decker also guest starred in Song's introductory episode, appearing as Holly. Jess and Nick accidentally ruin Cece's wedding, spurring Cece to confessing her true feelings. While leaving the wedding Jess begs Nick not to give up on their relationship upon which he kisses her and they drive away into the night.

In March 2013, Fox renewed New Girl for a third season.[66] It premiered on September 17, 2013.[67] On May 13, 2013, Fox reported that an episode of this season will air after Super Bowl XLVIII,[68] said episode will air along with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which will air after it.[69] Prince will also guest star in the Super Bowl episode, "Party Time", marking his first time guest starring in a television sitcom.[70] Initially scheduled to appear in at least four episodes,[71] Damon Wayans, Jr. returned to the show as Coach in the seventh episode and is set to remain for the remainder of the season as a "special guest star".[72] Taye Diggs guest starred in Wayans, Jr.'s returning episode, as a ladies' man who hits on Jess.[73] Eva Amurri also returned this season in her first appearance since the season one episode "Bad in Bed".[74] Angela Kinsey guest starred as Rose, a teacher at Jess' new job, who clashes with Jess over her personality and work ethic,[74] and will return later in the season.[75] Dreama Walker also guest starred in Kinsey's introductory episode, as a teacher named Molly, who immediately takes a dislike to Jess.[76] Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner will return as Jess's parents in the episode "Birthday". Jessica Chaffin first appeared in the episode "Longest Night Ever", Ben Falcone is also slated to guest star.[75] Adam Brody will appear as Jess' ex-boyfriend Berkeley in the episode "Exes".[77] Linda Cardellini will have a recurring role appearing as Jess' sister Abby, her episodes will begin airing in February.[78]
