American Horror Story is an American anthology television series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk for the FX Network.

The first season, which premiered on October 5, 2011 and concluded on December 21, 2011, revolves around the Harmons: a loving but troubled family who move into a famous "murder house" in Los Angeles, where their lives are turned upside down by the spirits of many deceased former occupants of the house. The first season was later renamed American Horror Story: Murder House. The second season, subtitled Asylum, premiered on October 17, 2012 and takes place in 1964 at the Briarcliff Mental Institution, telling the horrific stories of the many patients, doctors and nuns who occupy the asylum. The third season, called Coven, premiered on October 9, 2013,[1] takes place in both modern day and the 1830s and is mainly about the battle of witchcraft versus voodoo, but also has themes of incest, minorities, slavery, and mother/daughter conflict. The fourth season, Freak Show, premiered October 8, 2014. It is set in 1952, Jupiter, Florida telling the tale of one of the last remaining freak shows in the U.S., and their struggle for survival and relevancy.   Although the stories and settings are different, many actors (Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy and Lily Rabe being the only actors who have appeared in all seasons thus far) usually appear as different characters in each season.

As of November 12, 2014, 44 episodes of American Horror Story have aired.
