American Horror Story title screen.

American Horror Story is an American anthology television series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk for the FX Network.

The first season, which premiered on October 5, 2011 and concluded on December 21, 2011, revolves around the Harmons: a loving but troubled family who move into a famous "murder house" in Los Angeles, where their lives are turned upside down by the spirits of many deceased former occupants of the house. The first season was later renamed American Horror Story: Murder House. The second season, American Horror Story: Asylum which premiered on October 17, 2012, takes place in 1964 at the Briarcliff Mental Institution and tells the horrific stories of the many patients, doctors and nuns who occupy the asylum. The third season, American Horror Story: Coven which premiered on October 9, 2013,[1] takes place in both modern day and the 1830s and is mainly about the battle of witchcraft versus voodoo, but also has themes of incest, minorities, slavery, and mother/daughter strife. Although the stories and settings are different, many actors (Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, and Frances Conroy being the actors who have appeared in all seasons thus far) appear as different characters in each season.

As of January 29, 2014, 38 episodes of American Horror Story have aired, concluding the third season.
