Kathleen A. "Kathy" Orr (born October 19, 1965) is a meteorologist. She grew up in Westvale, New York, outside Syracuse and is the Chief Meteorologist for the CBS 3 Eyewitness News (KYW-TV) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and provided the 4 P.M., 6 P.M., and 11 P.M. weather forecasts from 2003 through summer 2011. She joined KYW-TV in January 2003 as their chief meteorologist, making her debut on the same night as Marc Howard. Orr has her National Weather Association and American Meteorological Society seals of approval in addition to being an AMS (number 106) Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. She came from WCAU-TV where she worked as a weekend weatherperson. She was reportedly asked to be chief meteorologist at WCAU when John Bolaris left but turned that down when she received a better salary offer from KYW-TV for chief meteorologist there. The offer at WCAU was ultimately taken by Glenn Schwartz.
Since becoming the head of the Eyewitness Weather Team, Orr has also helped establish "CBS-3 Kidcasters", where she and various CBS-3 crew members travel to various shopping malls in the Delaware Valley and encourage children of all ages to do a mock weather forecast. After playing many of the entries on the station's 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts, the very best children are invited to do live broadcasts alongside Orr on KYW-TV. Shortly after coming to the station, Kathy came up with the well known name for their radar, which is the strongest radar in the Delaware Valley. It is called "Live Mega Doppler 3". She also has done summer installments of "Orr at The Shore" for over 10 years on Thursdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day. She celebrated her 100th broadcast on August 26, 2009 with a day 'down the shore' in Ocean City New Jersey. As of September 2012, 132 episodes of "Orr at the Shore" have aired. In May 2013, she began her eleventh season.
It was announced in August 2011 that Orr, with desire to spend more time with her family and reduce her workload, would remain chief meteorologist and the face of Eyewitness Weather, however would move to the night side. She will be handling the 10 p.m. weather on the CW Philly 57, and the 11 p.m. weather on CBS3. Morning meteorologist Kate Bilo will be taking over Kathy's vacancy at 5 and 6 p.m. Kathy will still be seen more often during storm coverage, special events, and Thursday's for 'Orr at the Shore.'
On September 13, 2013 Kathy announced on 94.1 WIP radio that she will be returning to full time at CBS 3 effective immediately. She will be back tag-teaming with Kate Bilo at 5 and 6 pm, along with 10 and 11pm shows.
She is a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and of Bishop Ludden Junior/Senior High School in Syracuse.
Kathy Orr was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame on November 22, 2013.
