The fourth season of the CBS crime drama series Hawaii Five-0 premiered on Friday, September 27, 2013.[1]

Cast and characters[edit]

Henry Ian Cusick guest starred in the season's premiere episode as a character called Ernesto, a member of a terrorist group called the National Liberation Movement.[2] Also Jorge Garcia has been confirmed to be guest starring in an episode this season.[3]

Chi McBride has also been confirmed to be starring in a recurring role as SWAT Captain Lou Grover.[4] This character first appeared in the original series and appeared in the premiere of season 4. He was promoted to the regular cast on Nov 21, 2013.[5]

It has been announced that Tim Daly will be playing a Texas Ranger in one episode, with the potential for it to become a recurring role.[6]

On August 13, 2013, Nick Jonas announced that he would play a guest role as a computer hacker in an upcoming episode.[7][8][9]

The governor forces McGarrett and Grover to team up and serve an arrest warrant to Ian Wright (Nick Jonas), a professional cyber hacker, gamer, and college dropout with an outstanding violation of unpaid parking tickets. However, the two soon discover that Ian also has other plans up his sleeve... like a surprise ambush, a slick bank robbery, a stolen laptop from Grover's SUV, and hijacking the controls of an airline flight from Los Angeles. Although he succeeds in escaping the two, McGarrett later discovers that he has eyes everywhere and leaves him a message on an ATM machine after he takes out money; McGarrett looks at the ATM camera to tell Ian he'll catch him next time.

It's Thanksgiving and McGarrett and the rest of the crew are playing football until McGarrett had to rush back to his home where his sister forgot to unthaw the turkey. The doorbell rings and in comes McGarrett's Aunt Deb (Carol Burnett), who unexpectedly visits them. Meanwhile, Chin is on the phone with Kono and it is revealed that Adam might be hiding in Seattle and she is on her way over there to check. Five-0 is tasked in a murder where the body was badly decomposing; it is revealed to be one of the Secret Service. Despite being a huge target, the President is coming to Hawaii on a mission and cannot cancel. Five-0 races against time to stop the assassin. Elsewhere, Aunt Deb gets arrested and reveals to McGarrett she has terminal brain cancer and will not seek treatment. It turns out the assassin's target wasn't the President but a person from his past. Five-0 finally catches and kills him. Later that night the crew head to a restaurant to celebrate Thanksgiving and Aunt Deb sings to McGarrett and Mary to create some lasting memories.

Production[edit]

On March 27, 2013, CBS renewed Hawaii Five-0 for a fourth season,[21] but with a time slot change moving from Monday nights at 10 PM to Friday nights at 9 PM, with its season premiere on September 27, 2013. For season 4 production will resume at the show’s new headquarters — the state film studio at Diamond Head. Filming began on July 10, 2013 with a traditional Hawaiian blessing.[22]
