Biography

Born on March 3, in Mexico City, he was an only child of Don Fernando Colunga and Margarita Olivares.

He graduated from the University of Mexico as a civil engineer, but dreamed of becoming an actor. In 1988 he started out his career as a stand-in in various movies and as a stunt double in the telenovela Dulce desafío. Around this time he also joined the cast of the children's show Plaza Sesamo and small roles in Madres Egoistas and Cenizas y diamantes. In 1992 he landed his first major role in television as Chicho in the successful Maria Mercedes alongside Thalía. Supporting roles in Mas alla del puente and Marimar soon followed, but it wasn't until he landed the role of Luis Fernando de la Vega in María la del Barrio that he became a household name. Since the mid 1990s he's been one of the best known leading actors in Mexican telenovelas. In 2003 he played leading role in Amor real alongside Adela Noriega. Colunga will star, with Blanco Soto, in Juan Osorio's new telenovela; Porque El Amor Manda.[1]
