Dove Olivia Cameron[2][3] (born Chloe Celeste Hosterman; January 15, 1996),[1] is an American teen actress and singer. She is known for playing the title characters in the Disney Channel original series Liv and Maddie. She also starred in the Disney Channel original movie Cloud 9 as Kayla Morgan.[4]

Early life[edit]

Cameron was born in Seattle, Washington on January 15, 1996[5] as Chloe Celeste Hosterman to Philip Alan Hosterman[6] and Bonnie Wallace.[7] She has an older sister, Claire Hosterman. At the age of eight, Dove began acting in community theater. When Cameron was fourteen, her family moved to Los Angeles, where she sang in Burbank High School's National Championship Show Choir.[5]

Career[edit]

Since 2013, Cameron has starred in the dual lead role of Liv and Maddie in the Disney Channel original series Liv and Maddie. The preview of the series began showing on July 19, 2013 (2013-07-19).[8] The show premiered on September 15, 2013 (2013-09-15).[9]

The pilot episode gained 5.8, which was the most-watched in Total Viewers in two and a half years – since November 7, 2010 (Shake It Up!).[10] In the episode Twin-A-Rooney, Liv shows Maddie a clip from the Sing It Loud! finale in which Liv's character sings a cover of "On Top of the World" by Imagine Dragons. A full version of the song was recorded by Cameron and was released by Disney as a single on August 27, 2013. She also starred in Cloud 9 with Luke Benward, which premiered on January 17, 2014.

Personal life[edit]

Cameron has stated she was bullied through her entire school experience, starting in 5th grade to the end of high school. Regardless of the pressure at school and fitting in, she still stayed focused on her dreams of becoming successful in entertainment. "I became very passionate about [becoming an actress and singer]. I fully immured myself". Her father died when she was just fifteen years old.[11]

I just wanted to take this time to explain my name I all of you lovelies, because I have seen that there is quite a bit of confusion. My birth name is Chloe. But my daddy called me Dove/Dovey as a nickname since I was very small; just over a year old. As some of you know, my father passed away a few years ago, right around the time I started acting. So, I decided to change it legally in honor of him, which gives me great joy every day that I was able to do something so lasting and permanent to pay homage to his memory. But I still go by Chloe to some family members and Ryan. And some Starbucks employees. So Dove is not a stage name, it's actually a name that means a lot to me for many reasons. I Love you all! Happy Monday! Xx."
