Dominic Haakon Myrtvedt Purcell[1] (born 17 February 1970) is an English-born Australian actor of Norwegian and Irish descent. He may be best known for portraying Lincoln Burrows in Prison Break, the title character in John Doe, and Dracula in Blade: Trinity.

Early life[edit]

Dominic Purcell was born in Wallasey, Merseyside in 1970, of Norwegian and Irish descent, to Gerald and Mary T. "Maureen" (née Hassett) Purcell. In 1972, he and his family moved to Bondi, New South Wales, and later to Western Sydney.[2]

He attended Blaxland East Public School and Blaxland High School, as well as St Dominic's College (Penrith, NSW), and McCarthy Catholic College (Tamworth, NSW). After becoming a landscape gardener, he tired of the profession and decided to become an actor after watching the film Platoon.[citation needed] He later attended the Australian Theatre for Young People and then enrolled at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where he studied with Hugh Jackman.[3]

Personal life[edit]

Purcell's three brothers and one sister live in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland and hold Irish citizenship.[citation needed] Purcell has four children by his former wife, Rebecca Williamson.
