Diego Klattenhoff (born 1979) is a Canadian actor best known for playing Mike Faber in the Showtime series Homeland. He also played Derek in Whistler and Ivan in Men in Trees. He currently stars as FBI Agent Donald Ressler in The Blacklist.

Early life[edit]

Klattenhoff was born in Nova Scotia, Canada. He moved to Toronto at the age of 19 to pursue an acting career. While studying in theater workshops for a number of years, he adapted to the Toronto lifestyle while earning a living as a bartender.[2] He likes various physical activities in his free time, including playing baseball, hockey, golf and swimming.


Diego Klattenhoff studied with some of Canada's most respected acting coaches, including David Rotenberg, Bruce Clayton and Rae Ellen Bodie. Klattenhoff's first notable acting role was in Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams. He followed that with a string of appearances in notable TV shows like Smallville and Stargate SG-1, and films like Lucky Number Slevin.

Since 2006, he has been in recurring roles like Young Jacob in At the Hotel, Derek in Canada's CTV's Whistler, Ivan Palacinke in Men in Trees, and Mike Callahan in Mercy. He currently plays the role of Mike Faber in Homeland, a Marine major whose best friend returns to the US after disappearing in Iraq seven years earlier.[3] The series won Best Drama at the 2013 Golden Globes for its first season.[4] Klattenhoff and the cast got nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Cast and twice for a PAAFTJ Television Awards for Best Cast in a Drama Series.[5][6] Diego, returned to season 3 of Homeland as a recurring character, due to his commitment to NBC Drama The Blacklist.[7]

Additional credits for Diego Klattenhoff include guest starring roles on numerous films, movies of the week, and television series such as Psych, Supernatural, 24, and Falling Skies, among many others. Klattenhoff also starred in J. J. Abrams' Television Movie, Anatomy of Hope. Diego was also seen in the 2013 Guillermo del Toro film Pacific Rim and the 2013 sci-fi thriller After Earth [8][9]

On March 13, 2013, Diego joined the cast of the NBC thriller The Blacklist as FBI Field Agent Donald Ressler.[10] The show premiered on September 23, to 12.6 million viewers.[11]
