Dentons is a multinational law firm and the world’s largest law firm by number of lawyers.[4] It was founded in March 2013 by the merger of SNR Denton, Fraser Milner Casgrain and Salans. The combination between Dentons and Chinese law firm Dacheng in January 2015 created the world’s largest law firm.[5] It has 120 offices across 52 countries, with approximately 6,500 lawyers.[6] Dentons has been ranked one of the world's top 20 Global Elite law firms by a survey of in-house counsel around the world.[7][8]

Dentons (brand migration name: 大成 Salans FMC SNR Denton) is structured as a Swiss Verein comprising 北京大成律师事务所 in Asia (informally Dentons Asia), Dentons Canada LLP (Dentons Canada), Salans FMC SNR Denton Europe LLP (informally Dentons Europe), Dentons UKMEA LLP (Dentons UKMEA) and Dentons US LLP (Dentons US) and their respective affiliates. The firm is decentralised and has no headquarters.

History[edit]

On 11 November 2012, SNR Denton, Salans and the Canada-based Fraser Milner Casgrain announced a three-way merger, forming a new law firm structured as a Swiss Verein and named Dentons.[9][10] The partners of the three firms ratified the merger on 28 November 2012, and it was completed on 28 March 2013.[11] Dentons opened an office in Houston, Texas in September 2013.[12]

On Jan. 26, 2015, Dentons announced that it was combining with a Chinese firm, Dacheng (Chinese: 大成). The new firm will be called 北京大成律师事务所 in Chinese, and will continue to be called Dentons in other languages. The Logo will feature the Chinese characters for Dacheng globally, with the lettering 大成 Dentons.[13] Following the Dacheng combination, Dentons now surpasses Baker & McKenzie and DLA Piper, the world’s previous top law firms by headcount, by at least 2,500 lawyers.[14]
