David Afrasiab Bakhtiari (born September 30, 1991) is an Iranian-American offensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). Bakhtiari played college football for the University of Colorado. The Green Bay Packers picked him in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Early years[edit]

Bakhtiari was born in Burlingame, California. He attended Junípero Serra High School in San Mateo, California, and played for the Junipero Serra Padres high school football team. His older brother, Eric Bakhtiari, has played linebacker for the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers, among other NFL teams. He is of Persian and Icelandic descent.[1] Bakhtiari has gone to many San Francisco 49ers games in his childhood.

College career[edit]

While attending the University of Colorado at Boulder, Bakhtiari played for the Colorado Buffaloes football team from 2009 to 2012. He redshirted as a true freshman in 2009. He was a second-team All-Pacific-12 Conference selection in 2011 and 2012. After his 2012 junior season, he declared himself eligible for the NFL Draft.[2]

Professional career[edit]

The Green Bay Packers chose Bakhtiari in the fourth round, with 109th overall pick, of the 2013 NFL Draft. During the Packers' 'Family Night' inter squad scrimmage, starting left tackle Bryan Bulaga succumbed to a torn ACL injury. Due to the injury and Bakhtiari's play during training camp, David was inserted as the starting left tackle in the Packers first pre season game against the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field. He went on to start all 16 regular season and one playoff games as left tackle.

Bakhtiari is the younger brother of former NFL linebacker Eric Bakhtiari.
