Chelsea Vanessa Peretti (born February 20, 1978) is an American stand-up comedian, actress, and writer, known for her role of Gina Linetti on the FOX comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Peretti was born and raised in Oakland, California.[3] Her father is Italian-American and her mother is Jewish (Peretti's stepmother was African-American).[4][5] Peretti attended The College Preparatory School in Oakland. She moved to New York in 1996 to attend Barnard College[3][6] and graduated[7] in 2000.[8][9] She is the sister of American internet entrepreneur Jonah Peretti.[10] Peretti also attended elementary school with her Brooklyn Nine-Nine costar Andy Samberg, and junior high school with comedian Moshe Kasher.

As of 2013, Peretti lives in Los Angeles.[11]

Career[edit]

Peretti has written for The Village Voice, Details, Playgirl, Jest, American Theatre Magazine, as well as online publications like The Huffington Post. While in New York she made short films with Variety SHAC, a comedy troupe she formed in 2004 along with Andrea Rosen, Heather Lawless, and Shonali Bhowmik.[3]

After moving to Los Angeles, Peretti made appearances on programs such as Louie, The Sarah Silverman Program, TruTV Presents: World's Dumbest..., and Tosh.0. She appeared as a guest correspondent on one episode of Lopez Tonight interviewing local citizens about Prop 8.[12]

In July 2010, Peretti made Variety magazine's "Ten Comics to Watch in 2010" list.[7]

Peretti is credited as a writer on six episodes of the television show Parks and Recreation from 2011-2012.[13]

She has made several guest appearances on podcasts including Doug Loves Movies, You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes, The Todd Glass Show, The Lavender Hour, The Bone Zone with Brendon Walsh and Randy Liedtke, and Comedy Bang Bang. In October 2012, Peretti launched her own call-in podcast, Call Chelsea Peretti.[14]

As of 2013, Peretti has been a series regular on Fox's detective comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine playing Gina Linetti.[15] She also stars in the Comedy Central series Kroll Show as multiple characters.[16]
