Celebrity Big Brother 13 is the thirteenth series of the British reality television series Celebrity Big Brother. It launched on 3 January 2014 on Channel 5[1] and will end after 22 days on 24 January 2014.[2] It is the sixth celebrity series and the ninth series of Big Brother overall to air on the channel. The series was officially confirmed on 3 April 2012 when Channel 5 renewed the show until 2014.[3] Emma Willis has returned to host the series.[4]

Pre-series[edit]

[edit]

The official new eye logo for the series was released on 27 November 2013. The centre of the eye has turned into one of the many cameras which are located around the house.[5]

Presenters[edit]

Emma Willis returned to present the main show for her second celebrity series, as well as selected episodes of Big Brother's Bit on the Side. Rylan Clark returned to present Bit on the Side, but his co-host and Big Brother's Bit on the Psych host AJ Odudu was dropped as a presenter.[6] Clark hosts Bit on the Psych alongside Iain Lee, who was previously a regular panellist on the show. Celebrity Big Brother 12 housemate and former Loose Women panellist Carol McGiffin is head panellist on the show.[7]

Sponsorship[edit]

The series sponsor is again casino website SuperCasino.[8]

Bit on the Side scheduling[edit]

For the first time since it launched in 2011, spin-off show Big Brother's Bit on the Side will only air six days a week, with Channel 5 opting not to renew the Sunday edition, which last year ran in a lunch-time time slot and was hosted by Clark.[9] Bit on the Side will now air Monday to Friday with Bit on the Psych remaining on Saturdays.

House[edit]

The official house pictures were released on 16 December 2013. The theme for the series is 'Russian Opulence' and features the same layout as Big Brother 14 and Celebrity Big Brother 12, with minor changes. The house has a high class upgrade featuring a grand fireplace and opulent surroundings along with the small hot tub used last series.[10]

Launch night twist[edit]

On Day 1, Jim and Linda became the first handcuffed couple to enter the house. Upon entering, they were immediately called to the diary room where Big Brother disclosed that after all housemates had entered in handcuffed pairs, they would have the power to unlock one couple including themselves. When it came to the moment, they chose Dappy and Liz. However, as they were chosen to be unlocked, they would automatically face the public vote as a pair.

Housemates[edit]

Twelve celebrities entered the house on Day 1.[11]

Casey Batchelor[edit]

Casey Kim Batchelor (born 2 October 1984) is a model for "lads' mags" such as Nuts and Zoo.[citation needed] She entered the house on Day 1 handcuffed to Lee Ryan, before being released on Day 3 despite failing the tasks. This resulted in Casey and Lee facing the first eviction together as a pair.

Dappy[edit]

Costadinos Contostavlos (born 11 June 1987), better known by his stage name Dappy, is the lead singer of N-Dubz with his cousin Tulisa. Dappy entered the house on Day 1 handcuffed to Liz Jones. However, as part of the Launch Night twist, they were then released from each other but automatically faced the first eviction as a pair.

Evander Holyfield[edit]

Evander Holyfield (born 19 October 1962) is an American retired professional boxer. He entered the house on Day 1 handcuffed to Luisa Zissman. On Day 2, Evander was given a formal warning from Big Brother about some of his opinions he used during a conversation with Luisa. They were deemed offensive and homophobic.[12][13][14] Ofcom later announced that they may launch an inquiry over Holyfield's comments.[15]

On Day 3, Evander and Luisa were freed from their handcuffs but were automatically put up for the first eviction as a result of failing the tasks.

Jasmine Waltz[edit]

Jasmine Lynne Waltz (born 22 August 1982) is an actress who has had minor roles in films and TV shows, including Femme Fatales and Secret Girlfriend. She entered the house on Day 1 handcuffed to Sam Faiers, before being released on Day 2.

Jim Davidson[edit]

James Cameron "Jim" Davidson, OBE (born 13 December 1953) is a British comedian, also known for presenting TV shows such as Big Break and The Generation Game. Jim was originally meant to be taking part in the eleventh series of the show but was arrested hours before the launch by policemen working on Operation Yewtree. He was replaced by Neil Ruddock.[16] On Day 1, he entered the house handcuffed to Linda Nolan, before being released on Day 2.

Lee Ryan[edit]

Lee Ryan (born 17 June 1983) best known for being a member of boy band Blue. He entered the house on Day 1 handcuffed to Casey Batchelor. Despite failing the tasks, Lee and Casey were released from their handcuffs on Day 3. As a result, they both faced the first eviction as a pair.

Linda Nolan[edit]

Linda Nolan (born 23 February 1959) is an Irish singer best known for being a member of The Nolans, and the sister of Celebrity Big Brother 10 contestant Coleen Nolan. She entered the house on Day 1 handcuffed to Jim Davidson, before being released from handcuffs on Day 2.

Lionel Blair[edit]

Lionel Blair (born Henry Lionel Ogus; 12 December 1931) is a British actor, choreographer, tap dancer and television presenter. He entered the house on Day 1 handcuffed to Ollie Locke, but after winning immunity on Day 3, they were released from each other.

Liz Jones[edit]

Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Jones (born 5 September 1958) is a British journalist and newspaper columnist. On Day 1, Liz entered the house, being handcuffed to fellow housemate Dappy. Following the launch night's twist and task, she and Dappy were later released from their handcuffs but therefore, were both automatically nominated to face the first eviction of the series.

Luisa Zissman[edit]

Luisa Zissman (born 4 June 1987)[17] is a British retail entrepreneur and former reality television contestant, who was the runner-up on the ninth series of The Apprentice. On Day 1, she entered the house, being handcuffed to American boxer Evander Holyfield. They were finally released from each other on Day 3 despite failing the tasks. As a result, they faced the first eviction as a pair.

Ollie Locke[edit]

Oliver "Ollie" Locke (born 1987) is a British reality television star, who is a former cast member on the E4 reality series, Made in Chelsea. On Day 1, he entered the house, handcuffed to Lionel Blair. However, they were released from each other on Day 3 after passing a task and winning immunity from the first eviction.

Sam Faiers[edit]

Samantha "Sam" Faiers (born 30 December 1990)[17] is an English reality television personality and glamour model, who stars in The Only Way Is Essex. On Day 1, she entered the house, being handcuffed with housemate Jasmine Waltz, before being released on Day 2.

Summary[edit]

Day 1Entrances
  • Jim & Linda, Dappy & Liz, Sam & Jasmine, Lee & Casey, Ollie & Lionel and Luisa & Evander entered the house in pairs and handcuffed to each other.[18]
Twists
  • Shortly after entering the house, Jim & Linda were asked to free one pair of housemates from their handcuffs. They chose Dappy & Liz, but in a further twist, Big Brother announced that Dappy & Liz would now face the first eviction in their pair with another two pairs joining them over the coming days.[19]
Day 2Tasks
  • Housemates took part in "Building Blocks of Celebrity" to determine which pair would win freedom from each other and immunity from the first eviction. Taking it in turns, the pairs had to choose a block which applies to one or both of them and place it onto their tower, before sharing a relevant story to the group. As all pairs finished with the same sized towers, they voted for who they thought deserved immunity the most. They chose Jim & Linda.
  • The remaining handcuffed pairs had another chance to free themselves and win immunity. Big Brother asked them questions about each other, and to win, they simply had to match their answers. As Jasmine and Sam matched the most answers, they won the task.
Nominations
  • Jim & Linda and Jasmine & Sam won immunity from the first eviction.[20] (See tasks)
Punishments
  • Evander was given a warning from Big Brother after he said that gay people are not normal and should be fixed during a conversation with Luisa.[21]
Day 3Tasks
  • The remaining handcuffed pairs had one final chance to win immunity for themselves. Each pair had to untie themselves and a key for their handcuffs from knotted rope. The pair who completed this in the fastest time would be free and immune from the first eviction. This pair was Lionel & Ollie. Despite failing the tasks, Casey & Lee and Evander & Luisa's handcuffs were removed.[22]
Nominations
  • Lionel & Ollie won immunity (see tasks), meaning Casey & Lee, Dappy & Liz and Evander & Luisa face the first eviction.
Day 4Tasks
  • The housemates woke to find a UFO in the garden for their first shopping task. Housemates had to pass individual challenges set by aliens. These included testing Lee and Liz' physical pain limits, seeing whether Jasmine and Luisa could identify which housemate tweets from viewers were about, Jim indulging in a gruesome meal with the alien and housemates being abducted and staying overnight in a spaceship.[23]
Punishments
  • Dappy was given a warning from Big Brother after using the word "bent" to describe gay people during a conversation with Jasmine.|[24]
Day 5Tasks
  • The shopping task continued, and Jim and Luisa had to steal housemates' items to be able to return to the house from the spaceship. Finally, to free the remaining housemates, Dappy and Evander had to destroy alien egg pods then answer a series of questions about their fellow housemates in an allotted time in order to win a luxury shopping budget.[25]
Day 6Tasks
Twists
  • Casey & Lee were fake evicted and moved into the Bolt Hole, where they will live in secret from the other housemates.[26][27]
Nominations
  • Housemates nominated for the first time. With Evander, Jasmine, Jim, Liz and Luisa receiving the most nominations, they will all face the first eviction.[28]
Day 7Tasks
Punishments
  • As punishment for discussing nominations, Dappy had to wear a nappy until further notice.
Day 8Tasks
Twists
  • The 3 nominated housemates with the most votes will be saved from eviction, leaving the remaining 2 facing a twist.[29]
  • Casey and Lee will return to the house to make a big decision.[28]
