Airtel Super Singer is a reality-based Indian singing competition in Tamil language that is being aired on STAR Vijay. The program seeks to discover singing talent in Tamil Nadu through a series of statewide auditions. The show is sponsored by the mobile service provider Bharti Airtel. The show debuted in 2006 and has completed four seasons. The winner of the event gets a chance to sing a song in an upcoming Tamil movie.[1][2][3] The show usually airs on weekday nights in India and is telecast worldwide through partner broadcasting networks.

Seasons[edit]

Season 1[edit]

The first season debuted in 2006. Nikhil Mathew was announced the winner given by singer S.P. Balasubramaniam and was selected to sing the song "Enadhuyire" in the Tamil film Bheema for music director, Harris Jayaraj.

Season 2[edit]

Auditions for the 2008 show started on June 27, 2008 and judges shortlisted candidates from auditions in three cities Chennai, Coimbatore and Tiruchirapalli. Sujatha, Unnikrishnan and Srinivas were the judges of the event. Ajeesh won the competition and was chosen by Yuvan Shankar Raja to sing the song Idhu Varai for the soundtrack of Tamil film, Goa.[4][5]

Season 3[edit]

The auditions were held in various parts of Tamil Nadu. Sujatha, Unnikrishnan and Srinivas continued to be the judges for the second consecutive season. In addition, Harish Raghavendra, S.P. Sailaja, Pop Shalini, Mahathi, Nithyasree Mahadevan, Sowmya, Malgudi Subha, and Unni Menon helped during auditions. Saicharan won the competition through popular votes by audience.[6] Sai Charan sang for A. R. Rahman's musical Godfather.

Season 4[edit]

Grand Finale: Winners were selected by audience votes. Each contestants has given two performances in the grand finale. Diwagar was declared as Title Winner. Syed Subahan was declared as Judges Choice Winner for the best performance in Grand Finale and 1st Runner up as he got the second maximum votes of audience. Sharath Santosh was declared as 2nd Runner up.

Other/Guest Judges: K S Chitra, S. Janaki, Mano and many others among the noted singers who judged the reality-show in its various stages.
